Refractive Errors

To understand how LASIK works, it is important to understand the problems it treats. Hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness), and astigmatism are known as refractive errors. They occur when a person’s cornea (the outer layer of the eye) is misshapen. As a result, the light coming into the eye is not properly refracted (or bent), and the images seen are distorted.
